City Beautiful Movement
The City Beautiful movement wanted to use the political and economic structures to create cities that were beautiful, spacious, and orderly.
"As chief planner of the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, Burnham established himself as a leader in the City Beautiful Movement. The fair boasted harmonious neo-classical architecture, elegant landscaping, and state-of-the-art electrical, sewer, and transportation systems. It was also an inspiration for Burnham's later city plans, including his 1903 scheme for downtown Cleveland and his 1905 plan for the Philippine capital, Manila."
